The symptoms caused by hepatitis E virus are similar to those caused by the other types of hepatitis: Very few patients present flu-like symptoms, fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, jaundice and dark (tea colored) urine.

The appearance of fever is uncommon to this type of hepatitis. In the case of children younger then 14 years and people over 50, the jaundice or any other symptoms rarely occur.
